Knott's 75th Anniversary Plaque:
The year was 1920. The Boston Red Sox sold Babe Ruth's contract to the New York Yankees for the exorbitant price of $125,000.
Warren G. Harding was elected the twenty-ninth president of the United States. And in Southern California, Walter and Cordelia Knott moved their young family to the small Orange County community of Buena Park.
Short on money but long on determination, the couple opened a small roadside stand where their rhubarb, asparagus and berries began developing a local following.
Of course, the Knotts had far grander designs on their property.
From the famous farm would come the country's first theme park and the largest independent amusement park in North America.
Today Knott's Berry Farm looks back on its heritage with pleasure and pride.
Even more, the folks at "The Friendliest Place in the West" look forward to the next 75 years of entertaining and enriching the lives of all their friends who come to call.
