This was the eighth of the 21 Alta California Missions and was founded while Father Serra was Father President of the missions. It was the first California mission named for a female saint, Santa Clara. Moved several times due to flooding and earthquakes, the modern church recreates the spirit of the church of 1825 with its very ornate facade.
